Super 100s, 120s, 140s: What the Wool Count Really Means

Super 100s, 120s, 140s: What the Wool Count Really Means

If you have ever shopped for a good suit length, you have seen numbers like "Super 100s", "Super 120s" or "Super 140s" on the selvedge. Most buyers assume a bigger number simply means "better". The truth is more useful than that.

What the "Super" number measures

The Super count refers to the fineness of the wool yarn — how thin each strand is spun. The higher the number, the finer and softer the yarn, and the smoother and more refined the finished cloth looks and feels. It is a measure of fineness, not durability.

How that changes the cloth

The Mittal & Sons range

You can browse our full collection by count: Super 100s, Super 120s and Super 140s — each shown as a finished suit so you can see the drape before you decide.

Our advice

For a first quality suit or a wedding, Super 120s is hard to beat — refined enough to feel special, robust enough to wear for years. Step up to Super 140s for a reception or a wardrobe centrepiece, and choose Super 100s for the suits you will wear every week. When in doubt, come and feel the difference in person at our Chandni Chowk store — four decades of handling Raymond cloth is the fastest way to find your fabric.
