"A bandhgala, budget ₹25,000." "Anything cheap?" We have been trading Raymond fabric since 1977 at 160, Katra Nawab, Chandni Chowk, and our honest answer is this: every one of those budgets buys a good suit — once you understand how suiting is actually priced.
Suit cloth is priced by the metre
Fabric has no "suit price"; it has a per-metre price. A regular two-piece suit takes roughly 3 to 3.25 metres of cloth, and a three-piece closer to four. So the arithmetic is simple: a cloth at ₹1,080 a metre gives you a full two-piece length for about ₹3,500, while a Super 140s at ₹14,999 a metre is a different world altogether. When you tell us your total budget, we quietly divide it by the metres you need — that is the whole trick of buying well.

What you are actually paying for
As the price climbs, two things change: the fibre and the fineness. Essential cloths are poly-viscose — tough, crease-shy, unbothered by daily wear. From Signature upward you enter wool: first the fine wool blends, where the drape softens noticeably, then Fine Wool Rich and Super 120s and beyond, where the yarn becomes so fine the cloth falls like water. Our advice after four decades of handling worsted wool: never judge a suiting by its shine. Shine is a finish; quality is in the hand. Crush a corner in your fist and let go — the better the wool, the faster it forgives.

If the brief is "anything under ₹5,000–₹6,000", go Essential without embarrassment — a well-cut poly-viscose suit that holds its crease will always look better than a costlier cloth badly tailored.
