Some questions arrive in a cluster. What cloth actually makes a safari suit
Here is the thing most people get wrong. A safari suit is not a fabric — it is a cut. There is no bolt in our shop labelled "safari". What you are really asking for is lightweight suiting in a summer-friendly weave and an earth colour, and that is a request we can answer very precisely.

Our advice after four decades of handling worsted and blended suiting: for a safari that will be worn twice a week for years, poly-viscose is not a compromise — it is the correct engineering choice. Pure linen looks magnificent for the first two hours. A Super 100s fine wool blend sits comfortably in the middle and is what we hand across the counter most often when a man says he wants a safari suit but wants it to look like a good one.
Colours that work — and one that doesn't
Beige, sand, stone, khaki, soft olive, light grey, and the honest browns. These are the safari colours because they are the colours of dust and sunlight, and they hide both. Avoid black entirely: it absorbs heat, and it makes the cut read as a security uniform rather than a considered choice.
How much to buy
A safari suit needs a little more cloth than people expect, because of the pockets. Those four patch pockets and their flaps have to be cut from the same piece, matched, and they eat metres. As a working figure, budget 3.2 to 3.5 metres for an average build, and go up towards 3.75 if you are broad or tall. Tell your tailor it is a safari before he cuts — not after.
